Top Technology Trends 2018-2019

There are constantly new and changing trends in technology. Many of them apply to education. Here are the current top educational trends!

1. Custom Learning Experiences

Education has a long history of teaching to the majority, which left many different kinds of learners behind. Thanks to modern technology, learning experiences can be more customized to specific kinds of learners and what they need to master concepts within the system of education.

2. Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is a type of anytime-anywhere accessibility to information that is stored on "cloud" servers. Apps from mobile devices can access a vast source of information at the touch of a fingertip.
Cloud access offers so many ways to access and store information and even collaborate with others across the globe.

3. Speech To Text Options

Many apps and technology applications offer speech to text options. This allows for faster note taking and more comfortable speech to text communications. Smart assistants such as Siri and Alexa can respond to voice commands, making life easier.

4. Virtual and Augmented Learning Experiences

Virtual and Augmented reality can offer students an immersive and exciting educational experience. VR and AR are still not widely available, but the technology continues to grow.

5. 3D Printing

One of my personal favorites of newly available technology, 3D printing gives students the ability to print and experiment with parts they create. 3D printers enable students to create 3D objects and interact with them in a timely manner without parts being made by machinists or other means.

6. Learning Analytics

Thanks to advances in technology, studying how people learn have become more advanced and much easier. Learning analytics can deliver precise assessments of student learning, evaluate learning, and student engagement.

Sweatin' Outside My Comfort Zone

For this assignment, we were to find a workout that was outside our comfort zone. This was difficult for me, as I make difficult workouts a part of my routine. My Crossfit Gym, CSquared Fitness in downtown Prattville, uses an app for CrossFit WODs (Workout of the Day) to communicate to gym members what the class with consist of on that particular day. The only workouts I avoid are workouts that include movements that have caused me injury or pain in the past. I have included screenshot of SugarWOD, our daily workout app. Today's workout will be challenging for me. I normally shy from double unders, as I have a tendency to slap myself with the jump rope. I will always workout to a point that is challenging for me without causing injury. I wouldn't recommend CrossFit to people who want to start working out. The presentation by Tom Chatfield about rewarding the brain has introduced new points about learning behavior I hadn't thought about before. As a gamer myself, I can personally confirm the effectiveness of the methods he presented. Humans are hard-wired to progress and seek reward from the completion of tasks. In gaming, rewards are given at incremental periods to keep players interested in the content. Some rewards are more valuable than others, but each task will reward the player to increase their desire to acquire more or bigger rewards.
