VR, AR and MR with Intel
Virtual reality, augmented reality, and hybrid, or mixed, reality are promising new technologies that will enhance education, gaming, medicine, and much more. Virtual reality are simulations that pull the user into thinking they have been brought somewhere else. It transports the user to an artificial location that they can interact with and experience a virtual reality. Using highly advanced systems of depth perception, motion sensing and tracking, users experience virtual realities similarly to real world activity. Many pieces of the VR system are currently lacking, which can cause some users motion sickness and other problems. As scientists work to improve the system, it can still be used in many ways which education, gaming, and for advancements in technology, engineering, and medicine. VR seeks to provide users with a seamless virtual reality experience, merging real and virtual realities with lifelike interactions.
"If you are talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain." - Achin Bhowmik
Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality (Hybrid Reality) are often confused. Augmented reality keeps the user where they are and brings in simulated objects or scenery to augment what they are seeing in the real world. These objects presented with augmented reality are not anchored to objects in the real world. The real world content and the AR content are not able to interact with each other. In Mixed Reality, is anchored to the real world and interacts with the real world. As an example, a use of MR technology would be for a surgeon to use MR to overlay ultrasound images on their patient while performing an operation. The key characteristic of MR is that the virtual objects interact with real world experiences.
AR, VR, and MR are promising emerging technologies that can present a wide array of uses that will allow people to perform better, learn more efficiently, and present users with exciting gaming experience.I love video games and recently purchased my own VR headset. I am currently playing one of my favorite games, Skyrim, on the Playstation VR and it's amazing! I look forward to seeing more VR, AR, and MR content in the gaming world. It's very exciting!
