VGo - Robotic Telepresence

VGo is a robotic telepresence that seeks to aid homebound and hospitalized students attend regular classes and interact with peers. Many of these students desire to be a part of the school community an with systems like VGo, they finally can.

VGo helps students by delivering  services that allow them to be involved in school when they cannot safely attend. The robotic telepresence interacts with the school environment through video, audio, and movement controls directed by the user. The robot allows the student to interact with peers and participate in regular class discussions and activities. Users can explore their environments through the robot, which gives them a more realistic and interactive experience.

The cost of the VGo system varies according to which model and the selected options for each robot. The prices for the robot range from $3995.00 to over $6000.00 with added options. A subscription to the VGo service is required, which costs $100.00 per month. The required charging pad is an additional $500.00. The battery upgrade, if selected, costs an additional $200.00. The VGo system is not covered by insurance, which may be a problem for some users who are interested in employing the robotic telepresence system.

There are currently several disadvantages of using VGo. The robot requires charging every six hours with a standard battery. The robot also cannot navigate small obstacles or climb stairs. VGo does not have a security system, which makes the robot vulnerable to theft.

VGo is an excellent system for homebound and hospitalized students who cannot safely attend school, but the high prices of the system will deter many students and their families from utilizing the VGo robotic telepresence system.
